Create art for Moxy Hotel Milan

THE BRIEF
It takes “moxie” to create Moxy – a design-led, fun and stylish hotel brand that rebels against the traditional economy hotel experience. We started with a blank canvas and curated a whole new world of hospitality to excite travelers, including buzzy lobbies, inspiring design and tech savvy touch points. Moxy’s first hotel is set to open its doors in September in the heart of the art and fashion world – Milan.

The new Moxy Milan is seeking visual artists whose art medium of choice is illustration, painting, or graffiti art to create an exclusive piece of artwork that will be the cornerstone of the art collection at the hotel. Three finalists will then be selected to travel to Moxy Milan for the grand opening and provided a Blank Canvas to create a second piece, live in front of the media, art industry and society members from Milan and across Europe.

What we’re looking for:
  • A bold, vibrantly coloured design that captures the attitude and character of Milan; after all this is the world capital of design
  • Your submission should display the Moxy attitude: unexpected, spirited and fun
  • Existing work can be submitted if in context of the brief
  • Three (3) finalists will create a piece of live art at the grand opening event

  • Artists should give some examples of their live art in their Talenthouse profile
THE CAREER OPPORTUNITY
This Creative Invite consists of two rounds:

Three Finalists as selected by a panel of judges will

  • Compete live at the Moxy Milan ‘Blank Canvas’ event in front of European lifestyle and art media and members of Milan’s social society
  • Be provided with a written brief one week prior to the final event. Each finalist will create a new work, live at the final event on a new Blank Canvas
  • Get a round-trip economy flight to Milan, Italy from home city, three (3) nights’ accommodation at Moxy Milan Hotel, breakfast and lunch
  • Be provided canvas and basic art supplies for live ‘Blank Canvas’ competition on October 30th, 2014
One Overall Winner will
  • Be given the opportunity to become the Blank Canvas “Artist in Residence”, curating and designing work for the next Moxy Hotel
  • See their original artwork displayed within the Moxy Milan Living Room for our guests to enjoy every day
  • Receive press and social media coverage via regional media partners of Moxy
  • Receive a feature of their work and bio in the #ATTHEMOXY Guestbook across social media and moxyhotels.com
  • Receive $3,000 in prize money
THE COMMUNITY CHOICE
The artist as selected by the community will receive:
  • $1,000 towards their creative work
  • Exposure across Moxy Hotel's social media network and moxyhotels.com

Meet the Judges
Ramesh Jackson
Ramesh Jackson is the Vice President & Global Brand Manager for Moxy Hotels. Ramesh has had an exciting career in hospitality filled with unique and varied assignments that have taken him all over the world, including to the likes India, Southeast Asia, Brazil, China, Europe and Australia.

A true hotel and travel expert, he also believes in giving back to the communities in which he’s lived and worked and is involved in numerous social and charitable organizations. Ramesh is a passionate family man who loves traveling the globe with his wife and their two young daughters.
lee bofkin

Lee Bofkin is the CEO and co-founder of GlobalStreetArt.com, an artist-led platform, whose mission is to build a permanent museum, dedicated to street art and graffiti - both online and in bricks and mortar. Through their Walls Project, GSA have organised over 600 legal street art murals in London since 2012. Lee is a former UK break-dancer and has a PhD in maths and evolution.

rom levy
Rom Levy is a French art gallery owner best known for his direct involvement on working in concert with artists on the streets on several legal and illegal mural projects. Rom will join the Blank Canvas event at the Moxy Milan on behalf of Marriott Rewards to assist the finalists and lead the judging.

In 2009, Rom Levy subsequently launched the 'StreetArtNews' website to promote underground art, which widened his scope to work with a larger roster of street artists on museum-quality exhibitions. He is noted as one of the latest figures to help popularize street art and as an authority on the latest trends in urban contemporary art.
Charlotte Dutoit
Charlotte Dutoit - Justkids - is an art curator, artist agent and space designer working throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and London with some of the world’s most engaging visual artists. Charlotte is joining the final event as mentor and judge on behalf of Moxy and Marriott Rewards.

She directs Justkids, a dynamic interface that curate and creates art events, connect top-tier urban artists with leading global brand and designs conceptual spaces for luxury hotels, stores and other high-profile clients. Selected in the top ten creative innovators by Complex Mag in 2014 she is the founder and curator of “Rise Above” a street art event held in Miami and Las Vegas for Life is Beautiful Festival, she received the “Mayor’s Public Art Award” in 2013, and curates “Santurce Es Ley” urban art festival in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Sinead Butler, International Account Manager, Red Bull
For several years, Red Bull has been working with unique and talented artists as part of their Red Bull Curates Project. Red Bull Curates is a collaboration between artists and venues giving talented artists a platform to showcase their work turning traditional venues into a creative environment. Their challenge is to transform a blank canvas-wrapped Red Bull cooler into an inspired work of art resulting in unique installations throughout the world and their art a permanent feature.

CREATIVE INVITE GUIDELINES
  • This opportunity is open to global residents, subject to the limitations described in the Official Rules.
  • Artists should retain their original artwork files (in 300dpi) but designs must be submitted in JPEG or PNG, max size 5MB.
  • All entries must be original artwork (meaning not using third party pre-existing copyright materials) - photographs will not be accepted.
  • All submissions should include a description about the piece and the participant's experience in creating live art in front of an audience.
  • Artists must have an up-to-date Talenthouse profile.
  • Artists should give some examples of their live art in their Talenthouse profile.
  • Artists must be available to travel to Milan the week of October 30th, 2014.
  • Artists must join Talenthouse using an active email address in order to ensure they can be contacted should they be selected.
  • Participants that do not have a passport or who are unable to travel to Milan during that time period may still participate and be considered for the Community Choice.
  • The host may use the work of the selected artist as set out within the Creative Invite official rules. The host may use all submitted works in context of this Creative Invite. All artists retain ownership of their work unless specially requested by the host to sign over, specific terms of which can be agreed between the host and the artist.
  • All submissions will feature as part of a global gallery with public voting on Facebook and Twitter.
  • Talenthouse reserves the right to disqualify artists who we believe are cheating the voting system as this is against the spirit of the Creative Invite.
  • Inappropriate, offensive, harmful or submissions that do not fit the brief will be removed.
  • No purchase necessary to enter.

HOW MOXY MILAN WILL SELECT
Moxy Milan, together with the panel of judges, will select from all qualified submissions. A qualified submission is one that meets all the Terms & Conditions, Guidelines and Official Rules.

The community
can support their favorite submissions through social voting via Facebook and Twitter. The artist with the highest number of votes will be chosen as the Community Choice.

Three Finalists
will be selected to travel to Milan and provided a Blank Canvas to create a second piece, live at the Moxy Milan Blank Canvas event.
